This article analyzes the problem of placing sensor nodes in a plane in wireless sensor networks (WSN) and its impact on network efficiency. WSN is a self-organizing system consisting of many small and energy-limited sensor nodes, which are designed to monitor environmental parameters and transmit data to a central node. The article considers various methods of node placement - random, deterministic and hybrid placement approaches, and analyzes their advantages and disadvantages. Attention is also paid to mathematical models of optimal placement to ensure energy balance, communication quality and extend the life of the network. The research results will serve to increase the efficiency of SST systems and expand their application in real-world applications, including environmental monitoring, smart city and agricultural systems.
