FORMATION AND CONSEQUENCES OF FLOODS IN THE MOUNTAINOUS AREA OF SAMARKAND REGION

The article examines the results of the analysis of field studies of the operational parameters of mudflow protection reservoirs in the Samarkand region, as well as the impact of mudflows formed as a result of floods and inundations on the national economy, agricultural lands and settlements. The main causes of mudflows in Central Asia, including Uzbekistan, are also substantiated. The work establishes that the main causes of mudflows in the mountainous regions of Uzbekistan are: the presence of mountainous territories, sudden melting of snow cover in mountainous areas and heavy spring precipitation, sharp changes in air temperature, the formation of eroded materials in mountainous and foothill areas, the destruction of rocks, intense soil erosion, as well as the presence of a continental climate, characterized in certain periods by short-term spring rains and maximum daily precipitation.
